Walid Abdeen, the official spokesperson for Cairo and Giza Drinking Water Companies, confirmed that water has already started to return gradually to a large number of areas within Giza Governorate after hours of interruption that the governorate had suffered from in recent days.
Abdeen explained that some other areas are still facing slight delays in water restoration, attributing this to the significant increase in consumption rates in areas where water has already returned. He stressed that field monitoring teams are working around the clock to balance network pressures and ensure water reaches all neighborhoods in adequate quantities, noting that full water restoration across all areas will not take more than three hours.
In the same context, the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company announced that it had completed repair work on the unexpected malfunction at the Geziret El-Dahab transformer station, one of the main stations supplying electricity to Giza Governorate. The company explained that maintenance teams successfully restored electrical power to the distribution network at full capacity while securing electrical supply to areas served by the station, in cooperation with the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy.
The technical failure had caused a voltage drop from one of the Geziret El-Dahab transformer station’s 220 kV circuits, leading to a power outage on Sunday morning across several vital areas in Giza Governorate, including Omraniya, Haram, Faisal, Geziret El-Dahab, and Hawamdiya. This outage naturally impacted the regular water supply to these sectors, increasing the suffering of residents in recent hours.
The Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy continues its intensive efforts to ensure the full stability of the electrical supply, not only to residential areas but also to vital and strategic facilities. The ministry has also deployed additional mobile generators to provide temporary support until all technical work is completed and network loads are stabilized.
The ministry expressed its deep appreciation to the residents of the affected areas for their great cooperation with field maintenance teams during their continuous work to address the malfunction and restore electricity and water as quickly as possible. It also confirmed that it has developed a technical plan to secure the Geziret El-Dahab transformer station and other main stations to avoid any future unexpected malfunctions that could affect citizens’ lives or disrupt essential services.
Meanwhile, residents of the affected areas called for the implementation of early warning mechanisms to prevent sudden outages of essential services, especially given citizens’ complete dependence on electricity and water on a daily basis. They also expressed their appreciation for the extensive efforts being made to restore normalcy as quickly as possible.
