Iman Shaker, Director of the Remote Sensing Center at the Egyptian Meteorological Authority, revealed the latest updates regarding weather conditions, explaining that the country has recently been affected by winds carrying sand and dust, which significantly reduced horizontal visibility in several areas, particularly desert regions.
In a phone interview on the “Al Hayah Al Youm” program on Al Hayah TV, she stated that these conditions are caused by a desert منخفض (low-pressure system) coming from the Libyan desert, which has impacted the Western Desert and triggered the dust storm witnessed across the country.
She added that the air mass carrying winds and dust continues to affect the country and is expected to persist tomorrow, though with less intensity compared to today, with ongoing dusty winds in some areas.
She also noted that there is a chance of light rainfall over parts of Greater Cairo tomorrow, amid the continuing atmospheric instability.
According to her, weather conditions are expected to gradually improve starting Friday evening and continue to stabilize throughout the following week, with a noticeable decrease in dusty winds and improved visibility.
She explained that the peak of the dust storm occurred today, when horizontal visibility was heavily affected, especially in open and desert areas due to the strong winds associated with the low-pressure system originating from Libya.
She concluded by affirming that the authority is closely monitoring the situation around the clock and issuing necessary warnings to the public, urging caution while driving—particularly on desert roads—and advising adherence to official guidance to ensure safety amid reduced visibility.
