Natural Compound May Restore Memory Function in Alzheimer’s Patients
A new study finds that calcium alpha-ketoglutarate (CaAKG) may restore brain memory functions and protect neurons from early degeneration in Alzheimer’s disease.
Researchers at the National University of Singapore have discovered a natural compound, calcium alpha-ketoglutarate (CaAKG), capable of restoring key memory-related brain functions impaired by Alzheimer’s disease.
According to Medical Xpress, citing Aging Cell, CaAKG is a safe, naturally occurring metabolite commonly studied for healthy aging. The study shows it enhances synaptic plasticity, restores memory-related neural signaling, and protects neurons from early degenerative changes.
Professor Brian Kennedy, head of the Translational Research Program for Healthy Longevity, highlighted the promising potential of natural compounds to slow memory loss and support brain health with aging. CaAKG could complement existing therapies and offer a safe, widely accessible approach.
The research further indicates that CaAKG improves not only neural signaling but also associative memory and autophagy, the brain’s natural “cleanup” system that removes damaged proteins, supporting both basic memory and complex learning processes that decline early in Alzheimer’s disease.
Regular health screening is one of the most important steps to maintain good health and detect diseases early. The essential medical checkups for every age help in preventing complications and ensuring a healthier life.
Many people, after doing medical tests, receive their results and immediately start looking at numbers and unfamiliar terms like (High – Low – Normal) without fully understanding what they actually mean.
When dealing with medical services, many people come across different titles for doctors such as “Specialist” and “Consultant”, which can sometimes create confusion about what each title actually means and how they differ from each other.
Choosing the right time to visit a doctor is not a random decision. It can directly affect how quickly a condition is diagnosed and how effective the treatment will be. Many people delay visiting a doctor or go at the wrong time, which may lead to worsening symptoms or delayed care.
