While mutations in BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes increase risk, they account for only a small fraction of cases.

According to Dr. Ashish Joshi, oncologist at the M|O|C Cancer Research Center, poor diet, lack of physical activity, chronic stress, and alcohol consumption are all linked to higher breast cancer risk.
Hormonal factors such as early menstruation and late menopause also play a role, as longer exposure to estrogen slightly increases the risk.
Controllable Risk Factors
Experts emphasize that women can lower their risk by adopting healthy habits:
Maintain a healthy weight post-menopause.
Exercise regularly to boost immunity.
Limit alcohol and unhealthy fats.
Eat more fruits, vegetables, and antioxidants.
Get regular screenings for early detection.
Prevention Through Awareness
Dr. Joshi highlights that prevention begins with awareness, not just treatment. Smoking, stress, and poor sleep all weaken the immune system, increasing the likelihood of abnormal cell growth.
Early detection through self-examination and medical checkups can dramatically improve recovery rates, with survival reaching over 90% when detected early.
