Doctors have unveiled a revolutionary asthma treatment that requires only two injections per year and can reduce hospital admissions by up to 72% for patients with severe asthma.
The new therapy, known as Dupimokimab or Exdensur, belongs to the class of biologic treatments. It works by targeting lung inflammation with antibodies, making it more precise and effective compared to traditional steroids, which often come with unwanted side effects.
Clinical trials show that about one-third of patients with uncontrolled severe asthma may achieve near-complete symptom relief, offering hope to thousands who did not respond adequately to inhalers.
The British pharmaceutical company GSK has received marketing authorization from the UK’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), with potential integration into the National Health Service (NHS) later. The drug is expected to be available in the first half of 2026.
