Egyptian security forces carried out a preemptive operation against a criminal group allegedly specializing in importing and recycling raw powder drugs before distributing them.
The operation was conducted as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and target highly dangerous criminal elements.
Suspects Had Previous Criminal Convictions
Information and investigations conducted by the Public Security Sector in coordination with the Giza Security Directorate identified a criminal group consisting of four highly dangerous suspects.
According to the investigations, members of the group had previously received prison and life imprisonment sentences in various criminal cases. One of them had also been sentenced to death in cases involving drug trafficking, armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
Investigators determined that the group specialized in obtaining raw powder drugs and recycling and preparing them for trafficking.
Apartment in Al-Mounira Al-Gharbiya Used for the Activity
Investigations indicated that the suspects had been using an apartment within the jurisdiction of Al-Mounira Al-Gharbiya Police Department in Giza to carry out their criminal activities and recycle the drugs.
After completing the required legal procedures, security forces raided the suspects' location and arrested two members of the group.
176 Kilograms of Powder Drugs Seized
Authorities found 176 kilograms of powder drugs in the suspects' possession, along with quantities of tools and raw materials allegedly used in recycling and preparing the drugs.
During questioning, the two suspects admitted to recycling raw powder drugs in preparation for trafficking and distribution.
Seized Drugs Valued at EGP 450 Million
The suspects also admitted obtaining the drugs from two other members of the group who are currently outside Egypt.
Investigations indicated that raw powder was sent from abroad in packages whose declared contents were listed as raw materials for manufacturing plastic pipes. The material was then allegedly used in the recycling and preparation process.
Security authorities estimated the financial value of the seized drugs at approximately EGP 450 million.
Legal Measures Taken
The necessary legal measures were taken against the suspects. Security authorities, in coordination with the relevant agencies, are continuing efforts to locate and arrest the two remaining members of the group who are currently outside the country.
