The 18th First-Instance Criminal Circuit of the South Cairo Criminal Court, presided over by Counselor Mohamed Mohieddin El-Sherbiny, sentenced a defendant in absentia to three years of rigorous imprisonment and an EGP 10,000 fine in a drug possession case in the Khalifa Police Department jurisdiction.

The panel included Counselors Abdel Azim Sadeq Mahmoud and Khaled Abdel Rahman Salem, with court clerks Yasser Abdel Ati and Abdel Masih Fil.

Defendant Referred to Criminal Court

The Public Prosecution had referred the 40-year-old defendant, a worker residing within the Khalifa Police Department jurisdiction, to the Criminal Court in Case No. 2789 of 2026, Khalifa Felonies, registered under No. 1715 of 2026, South Cairo Appeals.

The prosecution accused the defendant of possessing methamphetamine for the purposes of trafficking and personal use, as well as possessing hashish for personal use, outside the circumstances permitted by law.

Details of the Defendant's Arrest

According to the case papers, Captain Ziad Mokhtar Fathy, an investigations officer at the Khalifa Police Department, arrested the defendant while he was passing through the department's jurisdiction.

Authorities reportedly found him in possession of a glass device, 15 bags containing a suspected narcotic substance, a sum of money and a mobile phone.

Police Officer's Statement

According to his statement, the officer said that the defendant admitted possessing the glass device for personal drug use and the narcotic substances for trafficking.

The defendant also allegedly stated that the money represented proceeds from his activity and that the mobile phone was used to communicate with customers.

Chemical Laboratory Findings

The chemical laboratory report established that the seized items included 15 bags containing a white crystalline substance with a total weight of 7.05 grams.

Laboratory analysis identified the substance as methamphetamine, which is listed among controlled narcotic substances.

The report also established the presence of traces of the same substance on the seized glass device.

Hashish Consumption Test

A report from the Poison Control Center at Ain Shams University Hospitals also found the defendant's sample positive for hashish consumption.

The test result formed part of the evidence considered in the case, alongside the seized items, the police officer's testimony and the technical reports.
