Cairo Criminal Court, convening in the Fifth Settlement, ruled on Saturday, September 5, to acquit seven defendants in the case known in the media as the “Major Drug Case,” which involves Sara Khalifa and 27 other defendants.

The case concerns allegations of forming an organized criminal group to import chemicals used in the production of synthetic drugs, with the alleged aim of manufacturing and trafficking them, in addition to charges related to possessing firearms and ammunition without licenses.

Details of the Sara Khalifa Case

The Public Prosecution had referred 28 defendants, including Sara Khalifa, to the Criminal Court after accusing them of forming an organized criminal group specializing in importing materials used to manufacture synthetic drugs.

According to the investigation findings, the alleged purpose of importing these materials was to manufacture and traffic drugs, with different roles reportedly assigned among the defendants.

Allegations of Drug Manufacturing and Trafficking

The investigations stated that some defendants were allegedly responsible for bringing raw materials into the country, while others were involved in manufacturing operations. The remaining defendants were allegedly involved in distributing and promoting the drugs.

The case also includes allegations of possessing firearms and ammunition without the required legal licenses.

Seizure of Materials Used in Drug Production

The investigations indicated that the defendants allegedly used a residential property to store raw materials and carry out drug manufacturing operations.

Authorities reportedly seized more than 750 kilograms of synthetic drugs and raw materials allegedly used in their production.

Court Ruling in the Major Drug Case

The Cairo Criminal Court ruled today to acquit seven defendants in the case, while proceedings concerning the remaining defendants continue according to the court’s decisions during the trial.

The case has attracted significant attention because of the number of defendants and the serious allegations involving the importation of chemicals, drug manufacturing and trafficking.
