Authorities Seize Largest Local Antiquities Haul in Beni Suef, Uncover Smuggling Network
Security forces in Beni Suef seized 533 antiquities, including statues, amulets, and coins, from a man who admitted possessing them for trading, while investigations continue to uncover possible accomplices.
The Public Security Sector, in cooperation with the General Administration of Tourism and Antiquities Police, carried out a major operation in Beni Suef, resulting in the seizure of 533 antiquities from a local farmer. The collection included statues, amulets, and coins, possessed for the purpose of illegal trade.
After legal procedures were completed, the suspect admitted to possessing the items for trading, stating that he had acquired them through unauthorized excavation in an area under the Ba Police Station jurisdiction. Authorities confirmed the authenticity of most items, while a few pieces were of suspected antiquity.
The Ministry of Interior emphasized that this operation is part of ongoing efforts to combat smuggling and illegal excavation of antiquities to protect Egypt’s cultural heritage.
Separately, the General Administration for Morals Protection arrested four individuals in Cairo and Monufia for facilitating immoral acts for money, promoted via social media. They admitted their actions, and legal measures were taken accordingly.
