In response to recent incidents of disorder, Cairo’s Criminal Investigation Department launched extensive security campaigns across the city’s nightclubs and nightlife spots, following directives from Minister of Interior Mahmoud Tawfik to track down offenders, bodyguards, and troublemakers operating in such venues.
The campaign, supervised by Major General Alaa Bashandy, Director of Cairo’s General Investigation Department, involved officers from various police stations and the Morality Department. Operations targeted establishments violating closure regulations or extending working hours beyond the legal limit, in an effort to impose discipline and prevent unlawful gatherings.
The raids resulted in the arrest of several suspects and nightclub bodyguards, in addition to individuals wanted for court rulings. Authorities also reviewed venue licenses and compliance with safety and regulatory measures. The Interior Ministry emphasized that these security campaigns will continue daily across Cairo to ensure stability and protect citizens.
Meanwhile, the ministry clarified details of the “Essam Sasa brawl”, which circulated widely on social media after videos showed multiple individuals fighting with bladed weapons and wooden sticks outside a nightclub in Dar El-Salam.
Investigations revealed that the incident occurred on October 7, involving 11 nightclub employees—one of whom sustained injuries—and another group of five individuals, one also injured. The fight reportedly began after the second group refused to undergo security inspection at the club’s entrance, escalating into a violent altercation.
Police forces swiftly intervened, detained both parties, and confiscated the weapons used. During questioning, the suspects admitted to their involvement, and legal procedures were taken accordingly.
The Interior Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining order in nightlife venues and confirmed that intensified inspection campaigns will continue across the capital to curb lawlessness and ensure public safety.
