Lawyer Ahmed El-Attar, acting on behalf of a client, filed a complaint with the Public Prosecutor against officials of a popular quiz show, alleging possible fraud and misleading practices that, according to the complaint, resulted in his client's alleged loss of a $1 million prize.

According to the complaint, the contestant participated in the quiz show and fulfilled all the announced participation requirements.

The complaint stated that on December 30, 2021, during the broadcast of one of the show's episodes, the contestant's phone number appeared on screen after he was selected as the winner, although the final two digits were hidden during the broadcast.

The show's presenter reportedly announced that the production team had attempted to contact the selected winner several times, but that he failed to answer the calls.

According to the complaint, the contestant was subsequently excluded and the prize was awarded to another participant.

Contestant Denies Receiving Any Calls

The complaint stated that the contestant did not receive any calls from the program during the period in which the show claimed that attempts had been made to contact him.

The contestant therefore contacted his telecommunications provider to verify the incoming call records.

According to the complaint, the telecommunications company issued an official statement indicating that there were no incoming calls to his phone number during the time when the program claimed that the calls had been made.

Request to Verify Call Records

The complainant considers the telecommunications statement, from his perspective, to be technical evidence that contradicts the announcement made during the broadcast.

He requested an investigation into the procedures used to select the winners and whether the calls allegedly made by the program actually took place.

The lawyer also requested that program officials be summoned and questioned about the person who allegedly made the calls, the phone numbers used and the exact times of the alleged calls.

Request to Examine Telecommunications Records

The complaint also requested that the contestant's telecommunications provider submit an officially certified statement showing all incoming and outgoing calls from his number during the relevant period.

It further requested that telecommunications companies associated with the program's numbers provide call records relating to the calls the program claims were made to the contestant.

The lawyer also asked for the records to undergo technical examination by the relevant authorities, as well as for the original episode recording, unedited recordings and electronic data related to the draw and winner-selection procedures to be preserved.

Request for Legal Action

The complainant concluded by requesting that legal action be taken against anyone found through the investigation to have participated in any criminal offense, while preserving all of his civil rights.

The allegations contained in the complaint remain subject to examination and investigation by the competent authorities. Filing a complaint does not by itself establish criminal liability before the investigation is completed and a final decision or judgment is issued.
