Controversy Erupts After Woman’s Phone Number Appears in Zamalek Ad; Court Postpones Case
North Giza Civil Court postponed a hearing of a woman’s lawsuit against Zamalek SC seeking 20 million EGP in damages, after her phone number appeared in a promotional video for player Addy Al-Dabbagh, pending verification of incoming calls.
A legal controversy emerged at North Giza Civil Court after a woman filed a lawsuit against Zamalek SC seeking 20 million EGP in damages, following the appearance of her phone number in the promotional video for Palestinian player Addy Al-Dabbagh, newly signed by the club. The court postponed the hearing to tomorrow, pending official authorization to inspect the incoming calls.
The controversy stems from the video published on the club’s social media accounts, in which the player ignored a call from a number ending with “1907,” symbolizing Al-Ahly’s founding year, while responding to another number ending with “1911,” owned by the plaintiff. This scene sparked widespread harassment and repeated calls from fans, prompting the woman to take legal action.
The lawsuit claims significant psychological and moral harm, including harassment, threatening messages, and repeated disturbances received since the video was published. The court highlighted that the hearing was postponed until official authorization allows the prosecution to review the calls, to accurately document and assess the impact.
This case has drawn public and media attention, highlighting the legal and social implications of sports advertisements, especially when using numbers or symbols with historical or emotional significance among rival club supporters.
