The New Cairo Appeals Court has decided to postpone the hearing of an appeal in the trial of a businessman accused of assaulting a security guard inside a residential compound in New Cairo. The case, which stems from a previous sentence of one year in prison, has been adjourned to April 7 for further review.
Earlier, the New Cairo Misdemeanor Court had sentenced the defendant to one year in prison over the charges related to the alleged assault on a security guard while the latter was performing his duties inside the compound, an incident that gained significant public attention after details spread across social media platforms.
During the proceedings, the defense team challenged the validity of the investigations, arguing that they did not identify the individual who recorded the video nor clarify the purpose behind it. The defense also claimed that the circulated footage was edited and did not present the full sequence of events.
Additionally, the defense requested acquittal regarding the charge of damaging a wireless communication device belonging to the security company, stating that the device was neither officially seized nor was there any technical evidence proving it was damaged.
In a related development, the defendant’s lawyer withdrew from the case during the first session of the trial. The court recorded this in the official minutes and proceeded with the necessary legal steps to continue the case, allowing the defendant to appoint new legal representation.
On the other side, the victim’s lawyer demanded the maximum penalty against the defendant, along with civil compensation for the damages suffered. He stated that the incident caused not only physical or verbal harm but also significant psychological distress due to the humiliation experienced during work.
He further clarified that the victim’s legal team is not seeking any settlement outside the legal framework, denying rumors about financial negotiations or reconciliation attempts in exchange for money.
Investigating authorities had already examined the incident after it gained attention, hearing statements from both parties to determine the circumstances surrounding the case, as part of the ongoing legal process.
