The economic court has decided to postpone the trial of mahraganat singer Essam Sasa, who is accused of using a musical melody without proper authorization, scheduling the next hearing for May 4.
The case stems from a complaint filed by a lawyer representing composer Wael Mohamed, accusing the singer of unlawfully exploiting a melody owned by his client. This prompted authorities to refer the case to the economic court for legal review.
According to the complaint, the melody originally belonged to a song performed by Sherine Abdel Wahab, who had legally obtained the rights to use it. However, the accused allegedly reused the same melody in another musical production and shared it across social media platforms, generating financial profit.
The complaint further argues that this act constitutes a violation of intellectual property laws, which prohibit the unauthorized use of protected artistic works.
The court is expected to continue reviewing the case in the upcoming session, where it will assess the evidence and arguments before issuing a final ruling.
