The Criminal Court in Shebin El Kom, Monufia Governorate, has decided to refer the defendant accused of killing his wife — widely known as the “Monufia Bride” — to Abbassia Psychiatric Hospital to assess his mental condition before proceeding with the trial.
The decision was issued during a court session reviewing the case of the husband accused of murdering his wife and her unborn child only four months after their marriage. The victim was reportedly two months pregnant at the time of the incident.
According to forensic findings, the victim sustained severe physical assault, including a fracture of the sternum caused by repeated forceful blows. The report also documented lung and brain hemorrhaging, respiratory failure, and cardiac arrest.
Additionally, the forensic report confirmed that strong kicks to the abdominal area resulted in the termination of her pregnancy.
The legal classification of the case is “premeditated murder combined with forced miscarriage,” a charge that may carry the death penalty if proven in court.
The incident was initially reported to security authorities in the village of Meet Bera, under Quesna district, prompting immediate police intervention and the filing of an official report. The Public Prosecution has since launched a full investigation.
The case remains under judicial review pending the results of the psychiatric evaluation and further court proceedings.
