In a renewed judicial development, the Giza Criminal Court of Appeal, sitting at Kilometer 10.5 on the Cairo–Alexandria Desert Road, unanimously decided to refer the case file of the defendant in the “Lebiny children” murder case—known in the media as the “Faisal Children case”—to the Grand Mufti of Egypt for the second time, to obtain the religious opinion regarding the death sentence.
Previous ruling and confirmed charges
Earlier, the Giza Criminal Court had issued a death sentence against the defendant after confirming the charges, following the religious opinion of the Grand Mufti at that stage.
Details of the crime
Investigations revealed that the defendant, identified as “Ahmed. M. A,” 37 years old, committed the crime inside the victims’ residence in the El-Haram police district after a premeditated plan, allegedly to conceal his relationship with the victim.
He reportedly lured her, prepared a drink mixed with toxic substances and chemical compounds, which led to her death according to forensic reports, and the crime also extended to her children in the same residence.
Investigation and arrest
Security forces managed to uncover the circumstances of the incident and arrested the defendant, who was later referred to the Public Prosecution and then to the competent criminal court.
New judicial step
The renewed referral to the Grand Mufti represents an additional procedural step before issuing the final verdict in the case.
