Authorities in Suez Governorate released the two defendants involved in the case known as the “Suez Elderly Slapping Incident” after the competent court acquitted them of bullying charges and confirmed a reconciliation on the second charge of assault.

During the session held at the Faisal and Ganayen Misdemeanor Court, the victim, known publicly as Sheikh Gharib, declared in front of the court that he had reconciled with the defendants and wished to drop all charges against them.

The defense lawyer argued that the viral video used as evidence was incomplete and edited, showing only the moment of the slap without context. He emphasized that the situation was a minor altercation, not a premeditated assault, claiming the incident had been filmed intentionally to exaggerate the scene.

The lawyer also presented official documents proving reconciliation between the parties, which led the court to rule for full acquittal. The defendants were later released from the police station following the court’s decision.

The incident, which drew significant attention on social media, showed two young men slapping an elderly man in the street. Public outrage prompted swift action from security forces, but the case has now been officially closed with the court’s acquittal and mutual settlement.
