Security services in Kafr El-Sheikh successfully uncovered an electronic blackmail case involving two individuals who threatened a woman with a fabricated video after hacking her mobile phone in order to extort money.
The incident began when the woman received a message containing an unknown link. Once opened, the suspects managed to access the phone’s private data and images, which they later used to create a fake video aimed at pressuring and threatening the victim.
The suspects contacted the woman’s husband and warned him that the video would be published on social media unless he paid 12,000 EGP to prevent the scandal and protect his family’s reputation.
Instead of complying, the husband filed an official report and submitted the original message. Authorities then coordinated a plan to lure the suspects and catch them in the act.
The husband contacted one of the suspects and agreed to meet for payment. During the meeting, security forces arrested the first suspect, who later revealed the location of his accomplice, leading to his arrest shortly after.
Investigations are ongoing as legal measures are taken against the suspects, reflecting continued efforts to combat online blackmail and protect digital privacy.
