Egypt’s Interior Ministry clarified that the viral video of a man igniting a gas cylinder at a Damietta fuel station is old and dates back to 2023, when the suspect was arrested after threatening to burn the site over a financial dispute.
The Egyptian Interior Ministry released a statement clarifying the truth behind a viral video showing a man lighting a gas cylinder inside a fuel station in Damietta Governorate. Authorities confirmed after investigation that the incident is not recent but from 2023.
According to the report, Faraskour Police Station in Damietta received a complaint from a fuel station owner who reported that a worker with a criminal record had placed rice straw and several gas cylinders near the fuel unloading area, threatening to ignite them due to a financial disagreement between them.
Police forces quickly intervened, contained the situation, and arrested the suspect before any damage occurred. Legal procedures were taken immediately at that time.
The ministry stressed that the currently circulating video is from that old case, warning against sharing outdated content without verification, as it spreads misinformation and public fear.
Authorities urged citizens to rely on official statements and avoid spreading unverified videos or news through social media platforms.
