Egypt’s Interior Ministry has revealed details of a video circulated on social media showing a verbal dispute between a police officer and a doctor at a hospital in Sohag Governorate.

An Interior Ministry security source said the incident was examined and surveillance camera footage was reviewed to establish what happened.

Details of the Dispute

According to the security source, the police team responsible for taking a detainee from the Sohag Rehabilitation and Correction Center to the hospital arrived at approximately 7:30 p.m. on August 18.

The detainee was taken to the hospital to receive the necessary medical care because he was suffering from a chronic illness, identified as lung cancer.

The source said the specialist doctor reportedly took eight hours to attend to the case, with medical attention eventually taking place at approximately 3:30 a.m. the following day.

The delay led to a verbal dispute between the doctor and one of the police officers, who was concerned about the detainee’s health and the need for him to receive appropriate medical care.

Officer and Doctor Reach Reconciliation

The security source said the two parties subsequently reconciled and expressed their desire not to pursue legal action over the dispute.

However, the police officer was subjected to administrative accountability for overstepping in his interaction with the doctor, in accordance with the Interior Ministry’s established standards and regulations.

The Interior Ministry’s clarification came after the video circulated widely on social media.

The ministry said that reviewing the available footage and surveillance cameras helped establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and clarify the sequence of events.
