Interior Ministry Reveals Details of Blogger “Om Gezira” Case and the Truth Behind Her Son’s Arrest
Egypt’s Ministry of Interior has released an official statement addressing the viral claims made by blogger “Om Gezira,” who alleged that her son was wrongfully arrested. The ministry clarified the full circumstances of the case, confirming that the allegations are completely untrue.
Following the wide circulation of a social media video posted by blogger “Om Gezira,” Egypt’s Ministry of Interior issued a detailed clarification denying the allegations that police officers at El-Nozha Police Station in Cairo had unlawfully detained her son and fabricated charges against her.
According to the ministry’s official report, investigations have proven these claims to be baseless. Records show that the blogger had previously been charged in a 2024 altercation case and received a six-month prison sentence.
Further inquiries revealed that on September 15, El-Nozha Police Station received a complaint from a man and his son, a student, claiming that three individuals — one of whom is the blogger’s son — had taken a sum of money from the student in front of his school located within the same district.
Police swiftly identified and arrested the suspects, taking the necessary legal actions. The Public Prosecution has since taken over the investigation to determine the full facts.
In its statement, the Ministry of Interior emphasized that spreading false information or fabricating incidents on social media without evidence constitutes a legal offense. The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to operating within the law, upholding citizens’ rights, and maintaining transparency in communicating verified information to the public.
