Mido’s Trial for Insulting Referee El-Banna Postponed
The Cairo Economic Court postponed the trial of former footballer Ahmed Hossam “Mido” for allegedly insulting referee Mahmoud El-Banna on social media to October 29.
The Cairo Economic Court decided on Wednesday to postpone the trial of former Zamalek player Ahmed Hossam “Mido” over charges of insulting referee Mahmoud El-Banna on social media, setting the next hearing for October 29 to continue reviewing the case.
The case stems from a complaint filed by referee Mahmoud El-Banna, who accused Mido of posting offensive remarks about him after a football match he officiated between Al Ahly and Pyramids.
Following an investigation, the East Cairo Prosecution referred the case to the Economic Court on charges of public defamation via the internet. The court postponed the session to allow both parties to submit further documents and arguments before proceeding with the final ruling.
