A legal chapter closes as the court upholds a two-year prison sentence against Egyptian artist Mohamed Ramadan for publishing a song without official authorization.
The Misdemeanor Appeals Court in Dokki has upheld a two-year prison sentence against artist Mohamed Ramadan in connection with publishing the song “Number One Ya Ansas” on his official YouTube channel without obtaining the required legal permits.
The court decided to adjourn the appeal session after reviewing Ramadan’s challenge to the initial verdict, which sentenced him to two years in prison. The artist was absent from the hearing.
The case dates back to accusations that Ramadan broadcast and published an audio-visual work without official authorization, violating regulations governing artistic productions. Investigations revealed that the song was released online without prior approval from the relevant cultural authorities.
Earlier, the Dokki Misdemeanor Court issued the initial ruling in Case No. 9213 of 2025, considering the act a breach of intellectual property and publishing laws.
The verdict has reignited debate over legal compliance in digital music publishing and the responsibilities artists bear when distributing content across online platforms.
