Egypt's Ministry of Interior authorities arrested a man residing within the jurisdiction of Badrashin Police Station in Giza for allegedly establishing and operating a wireless television broadcasting network known as “Sky.”
Investigations indicated that the suspect received several encrypted and free-to-air satellite channels and retransmitted them wirelessly using a special encryption system without obtaining the required permits from the relevant authorities.
Suspect Also Sold Satellite Decoding Equipment
Information and investigations by the General Administration for Combating Works and Protecting Intellectual Property Rights, under the Specialized Police Sector, revealed that the suspect also operated a shop selling equipment used to decode satellite channels in Giza.
Authorities said the activity was allegedly carried out to generate financial profits through the sale and use of equipment related to receiving, processing, encrypting and retransmitting television signals.
Broadcasting Equipment and Signal Boosters Seized
After obtaining the necessary legal authorization, security forces targeted and arrested the suspect.
A search resulted in the seizure of various devices, tools and equipment allegedly used to receive and process signals, re-encrypt them and retransmit them wirelessly.
Authorities also seized a mobile phone that, upon examination, contained evidence supporting the suspected activity, in addition to four signal-boosting stations and a shop selling satellite channel decoding equipment.
Suspect Admits the Activity
When confronted with the findings, the suspect admitted carrying out the reported activity, stating that it was intended to generate financial profits.
The necessary legal measures were taken against the suspect as authorities continued procedures related to the case.
