Just four days after her wedding, a 19-year-old Talbia bride faced shocking and violent behavior from her husband and his family. Her husband was unable to maintain a proper marital relationship, prompting his mother to intervene with outdated practices known as “Dakhla Baladi.”
The bride strongly refused these practices, but her husband attacked her with a sharp tool, tearing her face and hands and causing 25 stitches. She was rushed to the hospital, where her gold jewelry was also taken.
After being prevented from contacting her family for hours, she managed to call them, returned to her hometown in Gharbia, and filed an official police report accusing her husband of assault. The husband remained at large since June until the case was referred to trial.
She also filed a property damage lawsuit against him and obtained a one-year prison sentence in absentia, seeking authorities to enforce the ruling and deliver justice.
