Tragic Incident in Minya: Employee Dies in Collapsed Sand Well
A Minya education employee tragically died after a sand well he was digging in a farm at “Saad Younes” village, Samalout, collapsed, leading to fatal suffocation.
A tragic incident occurred in Minya Governorate this evening, claiming the life of an employee at the Education Directorate. The victim, Ahmed Ragab Abdel-Gaber, 53, head of a department at Minya Agricultural Secondary School, was digging a sand well in a farm at “Saad Younes” village, Samalout, when the well collapsed.
The Minya Security Assistant Minister, Major General Hatem Hassan, received a report from the head of Samalout Police Investigations, Major Abdelrahman El-Ghazawy, and immediately dispatched security forces and forensic teams to the scene. The body was retrieved and transported to Samalout Specialized Hospital for a legal medical examination.
Under the direction of the Public Prosecution, headed by Counselor Mohamed Hamza, Dr. Mohamed Salah, health inspector at Samalout, conducted the autopsy. The medical report confirmed that the cause of death was respiratory failure due to suffocation, resulting from the collapse of the sand well walls during digging.
The report ruled out any criminal suspicion, stating the incident occurred due to unforeseen circumstances. The Public Prosecution issued a burial permit, and the body was handed over to the family for funeral arrangements. The incident sparked sorrow among colleagues and local residents, emphasizing the need for safety measures during excavation in agricultural lands.
