Security authorities in Assiut have revealed the details behind a viral video circulating on social media, which claimed that a man harassed female students outside a school.
According to a statement issued by the Egyptian Ministry of Interior, officials immediately reviewed the footage and conducted detailed investigations to determine the authenticity of the allegations.
The examination found that no official complaints had been filed regarding the incident. Investigations identified the man appearing in the video as a clothing shop owner with prior criminal records, residing within the jurisdiction of Second Assiut Police Station.
After legal procedures were completed, the suspect was arrested and confronted with the video. He denied the harassment accusations, stating that he accidentally collided with one of the girls while walking on the street, leading to a verbal dispute. He claimed the video was recorded and posted with misleading allegations, and that both parties left the scene without further escalation.
Authorities confirmed that all necessary legal measures were taken and that the case has been referred to the Public Prosecution for further investigation. Officials also stressed the importance of verifying information before sharing accusations online, especially when they may affect individuals’ reputation and honor.
