The First Bankruptcy Circuit of the Cairo Economic Court decided to postpone the bankruptcy lawsuit filed against United Pharmaceuticals until February 7, in order to review the appointed expert’s report and determine the final position regarding the company’s restructuring request.
Reviewing the Expert Report
The postponement came after the financial expert’s report was added to the case file, along with an official certificate clarifying the status of the restructuring application before issuing any final ruling.
Precautionary Measures Continue
The court had previously ordered the continuation of precautionary measures on the company, including banning the disposal of assets, limiting financial transactions to regular business activity only, and placing the company under direct judicial supervision to protect creditors’ rights.
Impact of Restructuring Request
According to restructuring and bankruptcy prevention laws, submitting a serious and complete restructuring request temporarily suspends bankruptcy proceedings until it is decided, which the court is currently assessing.
Background of the Financial Crisis
The dispute began after the company failed to meet major financial obligations to pharmaceutical firms and banks, prompting creditors to file for bankruptcy. Large financial institutions later joined the case, making it one of the biggest financial distress cases in Egypt’s pharmaceutical distribution sector.
