Court Postpones Yasmina Al Masry's Appeal in Ashraf Zaki Defamation Case

Appeal Hearing Deferred

The Cairo Economic Court of Appeal has postponed the first appeal hearing filed by actress Yasmina Al Masry against a ruling sentencing her to one month in prison with immediate enforcement, a fine of EGP 15,000, and EGP 10,000 in temporary civil compensation in the defamation case brought by Ashraf Zaki, head of Egypt's Actors Syndicate.

The next hearing has been scheduled for October 4.

Ashraf Zaki's Lawyer Requests Upholding the Verdict

During the hearing, attorney Shaaban Saeed, representing Ashraf Zaki, requested that the court uphold the original verdict.

He argued that the charges were supported by investigation records, information technology police findings, and technical reports included in the case file.

Yasmina Al Masry Appears Wearing a Headscarf

Yasmina Al Masry attended the appeal hearing wearing a headscarf.

During the attendance verification process, it was discovered that she did not have her original national ID card and instead presented a copy, explaining that the original had been lost while confirming she still possessed her passport.

Background of the Case

The case began after lawyer Shaaban Saeed, acting on behalf of Ashraf Zaki, filed a complaint accusing Yasmina Al Masry of defamation and insulting his client.

Earlier, the Nozha Prosecution referred the actress to criminal trial on charges of defamation, slander, insulting reputation, making threats, and harming the reputation of Ashraf Zaki and his family in Case No. 6357 of 2026 (Nozha Misdemeanors).
