“Yawmeyat wa Hekayat Ma’a Noja” Blogger Referred to Criminal Trial Over Public Indecency Charges
Authorities have referred Egyptian blogger Naglaa Atta, owner of the YouTube channel “Yawmeyat wa Hekayat Ma’a Noja” (Diaries and Stories with Noja), to the Economic Court on charges of violating public decency and misusing social media platforms.
The competent investigation authorities have ordered the referral of blogger Naglaa Atta, widely known as the creator of the YouTube channel “Yawmeyat wa Hekayat Ma’a Noja,” to criminal trial before the Economic Court. She faces accusations of violating public morals, spreading indecent content online, and misusing social media to publish material deemed offensive to Egyptian social values.
The case originated from a formal complaint submitted by a lawyer to the Public Prosecutor, in which he alleged that the blogger regularly publishes videos containing indecent gestures, provocative speech, and immoral behavior that offend public sensibilities and undermine traditional family ethics.
According to the complaint, her videos deliberately employ inappropriate topics and language in order to attract views and increase advertising revenue, disregarding social responsibility and respect for moral boundaries.
Following investigations, prosecutors concluded that the blogger’s conduct constitutes a criminal violation under the Anti-Cybercrime Law, specifically for actions that “offend public decency” and “abuse communication technology.” Consequently, the case was referred for criminal prosecution.
This decision comes as part of an ongoing national campaign to combat unethical or offensive online content, in which several digital influencers have been investigated for publishing material deemed contrary to Egyptian family and cultural values.
Notably, the referral follows a similar case involving “Suzy Al-Ordoniya,” another social media influencer who was recently sent to trial on charges of publishing indecent videos and insulting public morals.
The Public Prosecution reiterated that while freedom of expression is a guaranteed right, it must not be exploited to spread immoral or degrading content that threatens social cohesion or distorts cultural identity.
