In response to a frequently asked question, Dar Al-Ifta Al-Misriyyah clarified the Islamic ruling on gifting the reward of fasting to living individuals, stating that it is permissible according to the preferred scholarly opinion.

The institution explained that a Muslim may dedicate the reward of fasting to both the living and the deceased, whether the intention is made during the act of worship or after its completion. It also emphasized that supplication asking God to grant the reward to others is accepted by His will.

Scholars have differed on this matter, but the Hanafi and Hanbali schools permit it and affirm that the reward reaches the intended person, whether alive or deceased. This view has been adopted as the preferred ruling.

It is also permissible to intend the reward from the beginning of the fast or even after completing it, reflecting the flexibility and mercy within Islamic teachings.

Such acts are considered part of kindness and compassion among people, where a believer seeks to benefit others through their good deeds.
