Regarding voluntary fasting, there is flexibility in the timing of intention. Many scholars have permitted making the intention at any point during the day, provided that the person has not engaged in anything that breaks the fast, such as eating or drinking.

According to this view, a person may intend to fast even after midday or shortly before sunset, and the fast remains valid. This makes it easier for those who did not form the intention the night before.

This opinion is supported by jurists from certain schools as well as early scholars, who agreed that the entire daytime can be a valid window for forming the intention in voluntary fasting.
