During Ramadan, Muslims pay close attention to daily habits that may affect fasting, including the use of perfume. The main concern is whether fragrance can enter the body and invalidate the fast.

The basic rule is that using perfume during fasting is permissible and does not break the fast, because a scent itself is not food or drink and does not reach the stomach as a physical substance. Applying perfume to clothes or the body is allowed.

However, excessive use that creates a heavy spray which enters the nose and mouth becomes disliked, since the nose is an open passage and may allow particles to reach the throat. Therefore, moderation is recommended when applying fragrance while fasting.

Incense, on the other hand, is different. It has visible particles that can reach the throat and stomach if inhaled intentionally, so a fasting person should avoid deliberately inhaling it.

Using lip balm or cosmetics is also permitted when needed, as long as nothing dissolves with saliva and enters the stomach. If something is swallowed intentionally, the fast becomes invalid.

Women may use cosmetics in front of other women or their close relatives during fasting, provided no substance reaches the throat, while general rules of modesty remain separate from fasting rulings.

In summary, perfume during Ramadan is allowed in principle, becomes disliked with exaggeration, and is prohibited only if it causes a tangible substance to enter the stomach. This balance preserves both cleanliness and the integrity of fasting.
