Many people search for supplications that help relieve anxiety and sadness, especially during moments of distress when the heart feels heavy and the burdens of life increase. In such times, a person finds no refuge except turning to Allah through sincere supplication.
Among the comprehensive prophetic supplications the Prophet ﷺ used to recite when experiencing distress is what was narrated by Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), where the Prophet ﷺ would say: “O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, from weakness and laziness, from miserliness and cowardice, from the burden of debt and from being overpowered by others.” This supplication encompasses protection from both psychological and worldly hardships.
He ﷺ also used to remember Allah through words of glorification and monotheism during distress, such as: “There is no god but Allah, the Most Forbearing, the Most Generous. Glory be to Allah, Lord of the عظیم Throne,” reflecting reliance on Allah’s greatness and mercy.
Another powerful supplication is the well-known prayer of distress in which a servant acknowledges his weakness and seeks relief, asking Allah to make the Qur’an the spring of the heart, the light of the chest, and the remover of sorrow and anxiety.
These supplications bring tranquility to the heart, strengthen the connection with Allah, and remind the believer that relief comes only from Him. Patience combined with sincere prayer opens the door to comfort and peace of mind.
Maintaining these supplications during difficult times helps restore balance, calm the heart, and fill the soul with serenity despite life’s challenges.
