Qiyam al-Layl is one of the most virtuous acts of worship, bringing a believer closer to Allah, and is a confirmed Sunnah that the Prophet ﷺ consistently observed during Ramadan and other times. It can be performed from after Isha until Fajr, with rak'ahs prayed in pairs. A single rak'ah or more may be performed according to one’s ability, with no limit to the reward, as the Prophet ﷺ performed up to eleven rak'ahs.
Dua during Qiyam al-Layl holds great merit. It can be made during sujood or after tashahhud before tasleem. Qunoot in Witr is especially recommended in the second half of Ramadan. The last third of the night, about an hour to an hour and a half before Fajr, is considered the best time for sincere worship and dua.
Qiyam al-Layl is not only physical prayer; it is a means of drawing closer to Allah, raising spiritual ranks, purifying the soul, and achieving peace and tranquility in the heart. One may begin with two, four, or six rak'ahs at the start of the night if unable to pray later. The key is sincerity and consistency, as every rak'ah carries immense reward.
