Rajab, one of the four sacred months in Islam, holds a special status and immense virtues. Its sanctity predates Islam, as Arabs honored these months and prohibited fighting, ensuring peace and security. These months provide a spiritual environment for worship and performing Umrah in the holy city.

Virtues of Rajab

Dr. Ahmed Al-Rakh, a professor at Al-Azhar University, explained that Rajab is distinguished by its prohibition of combat and injustice. The month is referred to as "Rajab Al-Asam" or "Munsal Al-Asna," highlighting its sacredness. Mentioned in the Quran as part of the twelve months: «Indeed, the number of months with Allah is twelve», Rajab sits mid-year, facilitating pilgrimage and Umrah.

Prayers in Rajab

Muslims are encouraged to increase their prayers and remembrance of God during Rajab, with recommended supplications such as:

  • O Allah, make us among Your freed from the Fire.

  • Bless us in Rajab and Sha’ban, and let us reach Ramadan.

  • Forgive our sins and aid us in fasting and praying.

  • Make us among those accepted in this blessed month.

  • Grant us piety and righteous deeds.

  • Bestow upon us light and blessings this month.

Fasting in Rajab

The Egyptian Fatwa Authority confirms that fasting in Rajab is recommended, whether on specific days or generally, as part of virtuous deeds. Hanafi, Maliki, and Shafi’i scholars favor fasting in this month, while Hanbalis recommend not singling out Fridays unless combined with other fasts.

The Significance of Observing Sacred Months

Imam Nawawi said: "Whoever acts upon knowledge of virtuous deeds even once becomes among its people," emphasizing that acts of worship during sacred months bring divine blessings and strengthen the bond between a believer and Allah.
