The Virtue of the Fajr Sunnah: A Spiritual Dawn for Every Believer
Egypt’s Dar Al-Ifta highlights the significance of the two Sunnah rak’ahs before Fajr, explaining the recommended actions and verses to recite, emphasizing their deep spiritual value.
The Sunnah prayer before Fajr is one of the confirmed Sunnah practices that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) consistently performed, due to its immense virtue and spiritual impact. Egypt’s Dar Al-Ifta explained that lying briefly on the right side after performing the two Sunnah rak’ahs is a recommended practice, as narrated by Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), who described how the Prophet would pray the two light rak’ahs before Fajr and then rest on his right side until the call to the congregational prayer.
The institution further clarified that among the recommended recitations in these rak’ahs are Surah Al-Kafirun in the first and Surah Al-Ikhlas in the second. Alternatively, one may recite the verse: “Say, We have believed in Allah…” in the first rak’ah and the verse: “Say, O People of the Scripture, come to a word…” in the second. These verses enrich the state of devotion and deepen the spiritual connection.
Dar Al-Ifta cited the well-known hadith narrated by Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), where the Prophet said: “The two rak’ahs before Fajr are better than this world and everything in it.” It emphasized that maintaining this Sunnah is among the most rewarding acts of worship and represents a blessed beginning to one’s day.
The report also recalled the hadith that outlines the rewards for those who perform the Sunnah prayers regularly, noting that the Fajr Sunnah stands among the most emphasized practices that draw a believer closer to Allah.
