What Strengthens the Bond Between Spouses? Al-Azhar’s Fatwa Offers a Daily Tip
Egypt’s Dar al-Ifta revealed a simple daily habit that helps couples maintain warmth and affection in their relationship — a Prophetic act that strengthens love and brings divine reward.
Many married couples wonder what truly strengthens the bond between husband and wife. Egypt’s Dar al-Ifta answered, explaining that lasting love and harmony often begin with small acts that carry great emotional weight.
According to Dar al-Ifta, one of the prophetic practices that nourish affection and mercy between spouses is sharing a meal together at least once a day. Though simple, this gesture builds appreciation and togetherness and fills the home with warmth.
The institution cited the Prophet Muhammad’s saying: “Whatever you spend on your family will be rewarded, even the morsel you lift to your wife’s mouth.” This, Dar al-Ifta noted, reflects the beauty of Islam’s concern for marital bonds, even in everyday moments.
The fatwa also emphasized the importance of emotional consideration and mutual respect, especially during intimate moments, noting that successful relationships are built not only on rights but also on empathy and kindness.
Both spouses, it added, have equal rights and responsibilities, as stated in the Qur’an: “And due to the wives is similar to what is expected of them, according to what is reasonable.” Respect and understanding are the foundation of a peaceful home.
Finally, Dar al-Ifta reminded couples that forgiveness, patience, and kindness toward in-laws are keys to true marital happiness — for homes thrive not through dominance or silence, but through compassion and love.
