Dar Al-Ifta clarified that intention is a fundamental requirement when giving Zakat, and it must be present at the time of payment.

If a person intends Zakat while giving money, it is considered valid Zakat. However, if the intention is absent, the payment is treated as voluntary charity rather than obligatory Zakat.

Regarding giving Zakat in non-cash forms, the original rule is that it should be given as money. However, it is permissible in certain cases to provide goods such as clothing or food, as long as they meet the actual needs of the recipients.

It is also allowed to direct Zakat toward practical support, such as helping someone with marriage expenses or essential needs, provided the intention of Zakat is clearly made.

Giving Zakat in the form of medicine is also permissible if it directly benefits needy patients, as the main objective of Zakat is to support those in need.

The minimum threshold (nisab) for Zakat is equivalent to 85 grams of 21-karat gold, and a full lunar year must pass before it becomes due.

Zakat can be delayed for a valid reason, but not beyond one year, such as organizing distribution or planning regular assistance.

It is also permissible to pay Zakat in monthly installments, provided a final yearly calculation is made to ensure the full amount (2.5%) is paid.

These rulings highlight that Zakat is not just financial giving but a structured act of worship based on intention and fulfilling the needs of the poor effectively.
