Hossam Hassan Dedicates Egypt’s Win Over Benin to Mohamed Hamdy
After Egypt’s 3-1 victory over Benin in the AFCON 2025 Round of 16, coach Hossam Hassan honors Mohamed Hamdy and praises the Pharaohs’ readiness for the quarter-finals.
Egyptian coach Hossam Hassan praised his team’s performance after the Pharaohs defeated Benin 3-1 in extra time, dedicating the win to Mohamed Hamdy, who suffered an ACL injury.
Hassan said in the post-match press conference: “I dedicate this victory to the Egyptian people and to Mohamed Hamdy. I’m saddened by his injury; he’s a talented player. We are happy to reach the quarter-finals of this strong tournament.”
He added: “Benin is a strong team, and no match is easy. I thank the players for their great effort and high spirits, and they will fight to dedicate future wins to Mohamed Hamdy.”
The coach also addressed Trezeguet’s ankle injury, noting that preparations are underway to ensure all players are ready for upcoming matches. Hassan emphasized that football rewards performance, not history, and praised the experience gained from legendary coaches like Mahmoud El-Gohary.
He concluded: “Starting tomorrow, we will prepare for the quarter-final match. We have 27 players ready, and I thank the medical and administrative staff and all team members.”
Egypt will face the winner of the Ivory Coast vs Burkina Faso match in the AFCON 2025 quarter-finals, scheduled tomorrow at 9 PM Cairo time.
