Mohamed Omar: Helmy was a thoughtful and balanced choice
Mohamed Omar explains the reason behind selecting Helmy Toulon for the local team.
Omar said in his conversation with journalist Karim Ramzy on the program "Game and the Second" on Radio Mega FM: "The decision to appoint Helmy Toulon was carefully studied and excellent."
He added: "We discussed all the names with Hani Abou Rida, but the timing of the tournament was difficult; most coaches were busy with the Premier League. We were looking for an experienced coach who could commit for a long period of about a month and a half, which is difficult for any coach to accept. That’s why the choice fell on Helmy Toulon."
Omar explained that the goal of participating in the Arab Cup is to discover new talents, as happened during the Qirush era, and not just to win championships, emphasizing that the public needs real results after years of declining performance.
Regarding the criticisms faced by Toulon’s appointment, he said: "We are far from any biases or inclinations. Helmy Toulon was not among the first options, but in the end, he was the best. Our only goal is to develop and reform Egyptian football."
At the end of his talk, Omar pointed out that Hossam Hassan is making steady progress with the Egyptian national team, and that decisions such as canceling relegation and increasing the number of league teams are not in the interest of Egyptian football. He stressed the need to respect the regulations set since the start of the season.
