Porto Delegation Under Siege as Fans Erupt After Draw with Al Ahly
Massive fan outrage in Porto following the team’s return from the Club World Cup after an early exit without a single victory.
The Portuguese team FC Porto has returned home after participating in the FIFA Club World Cup held in the United States, amid a tense atmosphere filled with anger and discontent from the club’s supporters, who did not hide their disappointment with the team’s underwhelming performance during the tournament.
Upon the team’s arrival at Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport, around 50 fans gathered to meet the players and technical staff, bringing with them feelings of frustration and disappointment. The supporters voiced strong dissatisfaction with the team’s poor showing, as Porto exited the tournament in the group stage without a single victory—a first that has stirred significant controversy in Portuguese football circles.
Fans explicitly demanded the resignation of the club’s management, including club president André Villas-Boas and head coach Martín Anselmi, holding them responsible for what they described as a disgraceful failure in the club’s history. Chants accused the leadership of incompetence and poor planning, while the squad was met with loud boos that echoed throughout the airport.
The protests escalated to the point where security had to intervene quickly to ensure the safe departure of players and officials, as tensions ran high and the anger showed no sign of subsiding.
Supporters viewed the group-stage elimination after three underwhelming matches—especially the draw against Egypt’s Al Ahly—as a clear sign of the team’s decline. The match notably saw Porto fall behind on four separate occasions, something rarely tolerated by the club’s ambitious fanbase.
Porto finished the tournament second in Group A with just two points, the same tally as Al Ahly, but edged ahead on goal difference. Meanwhile, Inter Miami (USA) and Palmeiras (Brazil) advanced to the next round.
This early exit raises serious questions within the club about the team’s future and forces the management to reassess ahead of the new season, especially amid concerns about the squad’s lack of fight and sharp decline in performance—traits that have long defined Porto’s identity in international competitions.
Former Al Ahly goalkeeper Ahmed Adel Abdel Moneim expressed his happiness with the opening of Al Ahly’s New Mansoura branch, confirming that the club’s expansion across Egypt will bring major sporting, social, and investment benefits.
Al Ahly midfielder Marwan Attia shared an emotional message to his late father on the anniversary of his passing, expressing his longing and wishing he could witness the achievements he has reached throughout his football journey.
AS Roma have officially extended Argentine forward Paulo Dybala’s contract until June 2027, confirming their commitment to one of the team’s most important attacking players despite recent challenges.
New Mansoura witnessed a historic event as Mahmoud El Khatib and Al Ahly legends attended the foundation stone ceremony of the club’s new branch, marking a major step in the Red Castle’s expansion strategy.
