The Appeals Committee of the Egyptian Football Association has issued its final decision regarding the crisis of Al Ahly’s withdrawal from the Cairo Derby match against Zamalek in the Egyptian Premier League. The committee announced that the appeals submitted by Al Ahly, Pyramids FC, and Zamalek were inadmissible, citing the finality of the decision made by the Board of the Premier League Clubs Association on March 30, 2025. Accordingly, the decision remains unchanged: Al Ahly is considered to have lost the match 3-0 by default, without the deduction of three points from their total at the end of the season.
In an official reaction, Zamalek’s Board of Directors, headed by Captain Hussein Labib, decided to escalate the matter by submitting an urgent complaint to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), objecting to what it described as the unfair application of the regulations in the case of Al Ahly’s withdrawal from the derby. Zamalek insisted that the opposing team had fully withdrawn from the match, and thus, the result should have been a 3-0 win for Zamalek with an additional three-point deduction from Al Ahly at the end of the season, in accordance with the league’s regulations.
Zamalek emphasized that the Appeals Committee’s decision represents a blatant violation of the principles of justice, fair competition, and sporting integrity, stressing its full commitment to defending its rights and taking all necessary legal actions to ensure the proper and fair enforcement of the rules.
For its part, Al Ahly issued an urgent statement following the announcement, confirming that the club’s Board of Directors has referred the Appeals Committee's decision to its legal affairs department to study the grounds of the ruling, in preparation for presenting it to the board to determine the appropriate course of action to safeguard the club’s rights.
