Zamalek’s first football team continues its rigorous pre-season preparations at its closed training camp in the New Administrative Capital. On Tuesday morning, the squad began an intense physical training session in the hotel gym under the supervision of Belgian head coach Yannick Ferreira, who is placing significant focus on fitness during this phase.
Ferreira scheduled the morning gym session after the players were granted a two-day rest, as part of a technical plan aimed at boosting fitness levels and bridging any physical gaps caused by the break. The objective is also to enhance both physical and tactical cohesion within the squad.
The team is set to resume its evening training at 6:30 PM at the “Nady El-Nady” stadium in the capital, with players showing noticeable enthusiasm and focus—especially following their solid performances in recent friendly matches.
Zamalek secured two friendly wins during the camp: a 1-0 victory over Ra’ and a thrilling 5-4 win against El Shams. These matches offered the coaching staff an opportunity to assess the form of several players, including those who saw limited playtime last season, as well as youngsters and returning players recovering from injuries.
The team is now preparing for another friendly match against Wadi Degla this Friday, which will mark the final fixture of the training camp before resuming daily training sessions at the club’s home facilities. Meanwhile, the controversy surrounding left-back Ahmed Fattouh continues to cast a shadow over the camp. The player’s absence and recent appearance at a private concert have stirred discontent among the technical staff and management.
Sources revealed that Fattouh attempted to submit a formal apology to rejoin the team, but Sporting Director John Edward rejected any reconciliation efforts. He insisted on proceeding with legal action, referring the player for investigation in preparation for a final decision based on its outcome.
