Born in Alexandria to a middle-class Catholic family.
His father was a Lebanese Catholic from Zahle, and his mother had Greek origins.
Studied at Victoria College and earned his high school diploma.
Later, he enrolled at Alexandria University before traveling to πΊπΈ the United States to study theater at the Pasadena Playhouse.

Made his directorial debut in 1950 with Papa Amin.
His film Son of the Nile (1951) was selected for Cannes Film Festival.

His funeral was held at Resurrection Cathedral in Abbasia, and he was buried at the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Alexandria.
