The Doha Film Institute continues to strengthen its global role in supporting independent cinema with the announcement of the Fall 2025 grant recipients, featuring 57 projects from 46 countries, including 10 projects by Qatari filmmakers and residents.

🎬 A milestone in cinematic support
This cycle is part of the Institute’s biannual grant program, held in spring and fall, and is considered one of the oldest film development initiatives in the region. Since its launch, the program has supported over 1,000 projects, confirming Doha’s position as a major international platform for filmmakers across continents.

🌍 Unprecedented diversity
Fall 2025 is among the most diverse cycles to date, with projects from 14 countries in the MENA region, as well as filmmakers from Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas. This reflects the Institute’s commitment to building a global network of storytellers who present authentic human experiences.

🇶🇦 Support for local talent
To reinforce its commitment to local cinema, 10 Qatari projects were selected, highlighting the Institute’s role in nurturing homegrown talent and fostering a supportive creative environment.

🧠 Grants cover multiple stages and formats
The program supports a wide range of cinematic works, including:
• Feature and short narrative films
• Documentaries
• Experimental and essay films
• TV series and web series

📌 A mission to rebalance global storytelling
Fatma Hassan Al Rumaihi, CEO of the Doha Film Institute, emphasized that the grants program was established to rebalance the global cinematic landscape, making lived experience, honesty, and artistic courage the norm rather than the exception.

She added that supporting over 1,000 projects reflects the Institute’s long-term commitment to important voices, especially from communities facing barriers to fair representation.

Looking ahead
Al Rumaihi noted that the Fall 2025 recipients embody the power of independent cinema to ask questions, build connections, and reveal deep truths. By providing constructive support and facilitating international pathways, the Institute aims to shape the future of cinema around diversity, authenticity, and multiple perspectives.
