Asser Yassin Clarifies "Shrimp and Chicken" Remarks from Early Career
Actor Asser Yassin addressed the controversy over his comments about eating "shrimp and chicken" during his early career, emphasizing that his words reflected personal experiences and were misunderstood.
Asser Yassin responded to recent criticism over his television remarks, in which he recounted struggling during his early career and sometimes eating "shrimp and chicken" after long days of work.
In a televised statement, Yassin said: "Thanks to those who say shrimp and chicken isn’t a hardship. Honestly, if my hardship was really shrimp and chicken, I’d be very lucky. That’s not the message I meant. You don’t know what the shrimp and chicken I ate actually tasted like."
He added: "I am grateful for everything and hope people watch the full interview and judge it fairly, instead of pages cutting clips for financial gain, which distorts the topic."
Yassin’s comments became widely discussed on search engines and social media after his appearance on the podcast “Hiwarat ma’a Abbas” with screenwriter Abbas Abu El-Hassan, where he shared memories from his early days: "I wanted food, so I’d stand by a street food cart in front of the microbus, ask what food was available—shrimp or chicken. They’d say no shrimp, only chicken. You’d take the sandwich and sit on the side."
