Minister of Sports: The Recent Elections for the Olympic Committee and Federations Are the Best
The ministry is working on developing all sports to ensure that Egypt remains at the forefront of competing nations in the Olympic Games.

Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, the Minister of Youth and Sports, confirmed that the recent elections of the Egyptian Olympic Committee were among the best elections in Egyptian sports. He explained that the victory of Engineer Yasser Idris and his team was a significant achievement that reflects the correct direction towards developing sports in Egypt.
During a meeting held on Friday morning, prior to the ordinary General Assembly meeting of the Egyptian Olympic Committee to ratify the victory of Engineer Yasser Idris' team, Dr. Sobhi expressed his full support for President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, affirming that the political leadership strongly supports Egyptian sports. He also emphasized that the ministry is working to prepare athletes for the upcoming Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
The Minister of Youth and Sports noted that the ministry closely monitored all procedures related to the elections within various sports federations. He pointed out that these elections were a unique experience that everyone appreciated, resulting in more than 66% of new federation presidents, reflecting renewal and new blood in the leadership of Egyptian sports, which he considered proof of the success of the electoral process.
Dr. Ashraf Sobhi also stated that the ministry did not interfere in preventing anyone from running for the elections and that the recent experience was a source of pride for the sports community in Egypt, organized professionally and reflecting everyone's commitment to developing Egyptian sports.
The minister also discussed the election of the Athletes' Committee in the Olympic Committee, which was overseen by Engineer Yasser Idris, the head of the Olympic Committee. He said that the victory of Olympic champion Ahmed El-Gendy, who won a modern pentathlon gold medal at the Paris Olympics, as the head of the committee was an important step toward involving athletes in the decision-making process.
Additionally, Dr. Sobhi stressed the importance of federation presidents submitting their annual plans as soon as possible for the ministry to approve them by the Cabinet and expedite the approval of federation budgets for the new season.
Regarding preparations for the Paris Olympics, the minister stated that the ministry handled the preparation and planning professionally, noting that the budget for the Egyptian delegation was moderate and could not be compared to other countries due to financial circumstances. He pointed out that some might have misconceptions about the expenses, but he confirmed that the ministry worked to ensure the proper and efficient management of finances.
Dr. Sobhi also mentioned that he personally follows up with all Egyptian athletes and provides them with full support, emphasizing that the goal is to win the largest number of medals at the upcoming Los Angeles Olympics. He added that the ministry will continue to provide full support to Egyptian athletes by developing sports infrastructure and offering all the resources necessary to achieve the best results.
On the administrative front, Dr. Sobhi emphasized the importance of continued cooperation between the ministry, the Egyptian Olympic Committee, and all sports federations to achieve the desired goals. He said that there is a commitment from the ministry to support federations at all levels, whether through funding or technical and administrative support.
In this context, he confirmed that the ministry will focus on improving and developing sports facilities across Egypt to provide an ideal training environment for athletes and sports teams. He also stressed the importance of applying the latest training techniques and developing sports rehabilitation programs to support athletes in all fields.
