IAEA Seeks to Assess Damage at Iranian Nuclear Facilities
Meanwhile, Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), stated that the agency’s top priority is the return of inspection teams to Iranian nuclear facilities to assess the impact of recent Israeli and American strikes and verify the condition of the country's enriched uranium.
Speaking at a press conference in Vienna on the sidelines of a meeting of Austria’s National Security Council, Grossi emphasized the urgent need to access nuclear sites that were previously used to enrich uranium. He said this was essential to maintaining the integrity of international nuclear monitoring efforts.
Tehran Informs IAEA of "Special Measures" to Protect Nuclear Materials
Grossi also revealed that he had received an official letter from Iran dated June 13, indicating that the authorities had decided to implement "special measures" to protect nuclear materials and equipment. However, the letter lacked detailed information about the nature of these measures.
Despite the uncertainty, Grossi suggested that the majority of Iran's stockpile of enriched uranium—including material enriched up to 60%—had likely not sustained significant damage in the attacks. Still, he stressed the need for on-site verification to confirm this.
