Yassin’s Father Speaks Out for the First Time: "I Never Imagined the Appeal Would Be Postponed, and This Is How I Feel Now"
The appeal hearing for the case of the assault on the child Yassin in Damanhour has been postponed to July 21.
The Itay El Baroud Court in Beheira Governorate postponed the appeal session filed by the defense team for the accused in the assault case of Yassin, a student at Al-Karma Private Language School in Damanhour, to the next session on Sunday, July 21. The accused had previously been sentenced to life imprisonment in connection with the incident that shook public opinion and sparked widespread sympathy within Egyptian society.
The incident dates back several months when it was revealed that a school administrator assaulted the child Yassin in a manner that caused alarm among parents, due to the severity of the situation and the fact that it occurred inside an educational institution, which is supposed to be a safe environment protecting children and preserving their dignity.
Despite the initial life sentence issued against the accused, his defense submitted an appeal challenging the ruling, a legal step that was expected. However, the family had hoped that today's session would confirm the sentence and close the painful case, which left a deep psychological wound on the child and his family.
In his first comment after the postponement decision, Yassin’s father expressed his feelings with patient faith and a heavy heart, saying:
“Everything is by God’s will, perhaps it is for the best... God’s command is before and after. We hoped the case would be settled today, but we trust that justice will take its course and that my son’s rights will not be lost.”
At the same time, lawyer Tarek Al-Awadi, representing Yassin’s family, emphasized the importance of transferring the sessions to the Alexandria Criminal Court to ensure full impartiality and to rule on the case without any local pressures or influences. This is especially crucial as the incident carries a sensitive humanitarian dimension and requires decisive handling to guarantee the child’s right to safety and justice.
Yassin is still undergoing a psychological support program under specialist supervision, in an effort to rebuild his trust in the world around him after the painful experience he faced at a young age, while his family continues to balance their pain with the wait for justice that will grant them some peace.
Child rights and human rights organizations continue to closely monitor the case, calling for stricter oversight of private educational institutions and the implementation of ongoing awareness programs for their staff, to prevent such violations from recurring, which leave a lasting impact that cannot be erased from the victims’ memories.
The case today represents a true test of the principle of child protection within official institutions, confirming that moral and legal responsibility does not end at the teacher or administrator level, but extends to the entire educational system, which is supposed to be the first line of defense for the dignity of every child under its roof.
